How One Melton Mowbray Locksmith Found Quality Leads Through The Perspicacity Life
October 15, 2025Locksmith of the Week: AHLP Locksmiths, Bristol & South Gloucestershire
Locked out, struggling with a door that will not lock, or collecting the keys to your next home?
You need more than someone who can change a lock.
You need to know who is coming, what the job will cost and whether your property will be secure when they leave.
AHLP Locksmiths is a family-run locksmith business based in Thornbury, serving Bristol, South Gloucestershire and surrounding areas. You can get help with emergency lockouts, lock changes, uPVC and composite door locks, and planned security work, with no call-out fee and the price agreed before work starts.
A local business, with people you can put a name to
Your call connects you with a family business, not an anonymous national booking operation. AHLP is run by father and son Martyn and Sam Lenthall. Sam leads the hands-on locksmith work, while Martyn runs the business and also attends jobs when needed. Both hold the NCFE Level 4 locksmith qualification.
For you, that means a direct conversation about your door, your lock and the help you need. If a covering locksmith is needed because neither can attend, AHLP's terms say you will be told and asked to agree first.

Locked out? Get help without a call-out fee
If you are looking for an emergency locksmith in Bristol or South Gloucestershire, AHLP offers a 24-hour service for home and business lockouts, failed locks and urgent security problems. Non-destructive entry is used wherever possible, rather than assuming your lock must be drilled or replaced.
No call-out fee does not mean a free repair. You pay for the work and parts you agree to. Your first phone estimate is based on the information available; once the fault has been assessed, you get the total price before work starts. If the job changes, any extra work or cost needs your agreement.
When your door is the problem, not just your key
A key that turns reluctantly, a handle that needs lifting hard or a uPVC door that will not lock properly can make every trip out feel uncertain. AHLP repairs and replaces uPVC and composite door locks, including multipoint locking mechanisms, gearboxes and cylinders.
You can also get help with broken-key removal, door-handle repairs, seized locks and cylinder replacement. The useful question is whether your existing hardware can be repaired or needs replacing, not whether you should automatically buy a completely new door.
When you call, ask for an arrival estimate for your postcode. Your location, traffic and existing jobs affect how soon help can reach you, so a realistic estimate is more useful than a blanket promise.

Moving home? Make your keys the only set you rely on
You cannot know how many copies of your new home's keys are still in circulation. A planned lock change gives you control over who can unlock your doors, rather than leaving you to guess who may still have a key.
You can book AHLP in advance of your move. There is no charge for making that advance booking, or if your moving plans change. The locksmith work and any parts are still chargeable. That distinction lets you arrange the visit before moving day without mistaking a free booking for free lock replacement.
AHLP replaces locks or cylinders; it does not offer re-keying. If you are considering anti-snap cylinders or other security upgrades, the right choice depends on your door, existing hardware and any requirements in your insurance policy. Ask for advice specific to your property rather than assuming one lock suits every door.
Help for your business, rental property or managed portfolio
If you manage a shop, office or rental property, a failed lock can disrupt more than one person's day. AHLP's commercial locksmith and landlord services include emergency access, tenancy-change lock replacements and planned lock work.
You can discuss invoicing arrangements in advance, so your job is set up around the way your business or property management works. After a break-in, you can also ask about repairs and security upgrades to help secure your property again.
